  • “serious error” and crash with exporting and media encoder – fixed!

Just in case anyone else encounters this one:
Our 8 upgraded laptops (2010ish Macbook pro i5s running Mavericks) were crashing when trying to export from Premiere Pro, because Media Encoder wouldn’t run.
An online hunt turned up this solution, which I’ll share here in the hope it helps someone out. (We’re using these 8 laptops for a video workshop in less than a week, so I’m very relieved!)

In short, the Adobe preferences folder wasn’t writeable by the user:
    1. Choose Finder: GO (hold down ALT beforehand, then it’ll list the Library folder)
    2. Find Preferences/Adobe folder
    3. Choose Get Info
    4. Open Sharing and Permissions at the bottom
    5. Click the + to add the user(s) and give the Read&Write permission
