I dont know what happened but now I can’t capture, I keep getting this error code.

    Sony.Capture.CaptureException: A failure occurred in Capture. —> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8000FFFF): Catastrophic failure (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8000FFFF (E_UNEXPECTED))
    at Sony.MediaSoftware.ExternalVideoDevice.ICaptureController.StopCapture(StopCaptureFlags flags)
    at Sony.MediaSoftware.ExternalVideoDevice.CaptureController.StopCapture(StopCaptureFlags flags)
    at Sony.Capture.Capture.StopCapture(Object sender, StopCaptureFlags flags)
    at Sony.Capture.Capture.HandleStopCapture(Object sender, EventArgs args)
    — End of inner exception stack trace —

Does anyone know what is wrong ? Now even the LCD on my camcorder is blue and I get huge time code skips seconds at a time then never captures anything.

Just a thought – are you using the right capture app – (External for DV, Internal for HDV/SDI)

Here is my history so far 3 weekes ago I bought a Sony HDR-HC3 and Vegas 6. It took about 2 days but I was finally able to capture video through the internal capture in Vegas but the preview on vegas never worked, I would have to look at the video on my HC3 lcd. It would capture but I would get about 3 video drop outs a minute, last time I was able to capture I got 38 different clips in 9 minutes of captured video. I was able to capture for about 2 weeks like this.

Then I could not capture anything , even the lcd on my HC3 was blue and when I would hit capture the screen would be blue but the timecode would be be rolling and skipping seconds at a time and maybe I will get a few half seconds if video captured.

I have downloaded HDVsplit ,& vegas 7 trial but none of them worked . So I un-installed everything and reloaded Vegas 6 and HDVsplit and I was able to capture 1 time on HDVsplit and once on vegsas 6 then I have not been able to capture since. I have un-installed and re-installed both a few time but Im not able to capture. I still get a blue lcd screen even on my camera when the firewire is attatched. I even tried a system restore to a previous date when capturing was working but it did notwork .

I have a 3ghzP4,1 gig of ram, a 200GB HD & a 400GB HD. Do I need more ram,a video card, or a new computer . Im so frustrated, any suggestions?

    Thanks Joey

Your system sounds fine – it seems that windows is not finding and connecting to your camera properly.

I do remember having to go through a routine when I first used my Z1 18 months ago to get the camera recognised – I’ll try and find where I got that advice from and post it …….

In case it helps, here’s the advice I followed – courtesy DSE:

Here’s how you get your system to see the Z1.

    1. Go to Control Panel/System/Device Manager
    2. Click on the AVC devices, you’ll see a connected device
    3. Right click, choose UpDate Driver. You want to MANUALLY search for the new driver
    4. Browse to Sound, Video, Game controllers.
    5. In there, you’ll find Sony, and Sony something else, I don’t recall. You want the SONY folder
    6. In the Sony folder, specify the DVHS driver, and you’ll be set.

Thanks Peter, I will try it when I get home from work. It is definatly my computer because I tried it on my laptop and it worked perfectly. I guess I can capture to my laptop and burn m2t’s to a dvd and transfer to my desk top as a last resort for edititng.

    Thanks alot Joey
