Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy serial numbers

Things have gotten confused in my little studio. The idiot in charge of reinstalling FCP on two machines(let’s call him me), tried to save a little time and cloned the OS and FCP to machine A, FCS3 upgrade from FCS2. Normally Machine A has the FCS3 install on it. I entered the serial number that’s taped on the case and all is fine. Then I went to machine B and figured I’d save some time over installing FCS2, then the Upgrade, and just do the FCS3 install. I got a dialog box saying that the serial I’m using is an upgrade serial and I can’t do that. So, in an after lunch food coma I went ahead with that install-forgetting that I can’t run two machines on a network with the same serial number. So, if anyone is still with me at this point, is there a way for me to straighten out my conflicting serial numbers-basically I need to change the serial number on machine A to the upgrade serial number. Or am I reinstalling? thoughts.

“system drive”/Library/Application Support/ProApps/Final Cut Studio System ID

Move that file to the trash (don’t empty it until you complete the process)

Lauch FCP and it will ask you for the Ser# again.

BTW, you don’t not (nor should you) have to install the version you are upgrading from. If FCS2 is not installed all you need to do is enter the old ser #. you do not install FCS2 before you install FCS3 upgrade.

Hi there, I’m having the same issue. I have trashed the Final Cut Pro System ID, as per the instructions you have given but FCP still launches as normal. I then emptied the trash and FCP still launches as normal with the previous serial number. Any other ideas would be of great help.

    Thanks
