Serial Number
I just purchased a used HVX 200. It has no serial number under the viewfinder. Is there another way to locate the serial number? For example can it be found somewhere electronically in the menu or other?

It’s written in every XML file the camera makes. Record a clip on a P2 card, and then open the CONTENTS > CLIP > and then any XML file from a computer.
Read it with a text file and look for the “Device” section.

OK. Will it work the same if I have a Mac with Final Cut Express and iMovie? I’ve never done any of this before, but I’m willing to give it a try. Thanks a million!

Thanks for helping me. I have a 16 gb p2 card. My iMovie and my Final Cut Express don’t seem to be able to recognize the camera or the information being sent to it.
What next? Is there a way to read off the P2? I guess I have to now update my whole mac set up. I don’t have the latest gear. I have a G4 Mirror Tower with 1.25 GH Processor running Tiger.

iMovie doesn’t work with P2 footage, and I don’t think Express will either.

You know I was beginning to think that myself. I drove all the way from NY to Philadelphia for it.
It seems to work and playback just fine. But I can’t get any footage into my computer.
Now I’m sick to my stomach!

Is there a way to get the serial number off the P2 card, itself?
I asked the seller about the remote, strap and wires that came with the unit and he said he never saw a remote. I wonder if he didn’t buy it from a place that sold him a hot unit!

You need to install Panasonic P2 drivers. that will at least allow you to transfer the footage off of the card, and then check out the serial number.
As far as editing the footage, you need Final Cut Pro Regular, not Express.
