  • Sequences with no audio tracks

I’m working on various sub-sequences of images before dragging the sequences into my main timeline.

Because these sub-sequences have no sound, I want to create sequences in my Final Cut project that have no audio tracks. When I go to Final Cut-> User Preferences-> Timeline Options, it will allow me to set the default number of tracks for audio to 0. But then, when I create a new sequence, it puts 1 audio track in. (If I set it to any other number except 0, it works fine.)

Sequence-> Delete Tracks won’t allow me to have less than 1 audio track either.

Is there any way of making Final Cut work with a soundless sequence or can it just not do it?

You must have at least one audio track. There doesn’t have to be anything on it so it will be soundless.

    All the best,

    That’s a shame.

*Why* do you have to have one audio track?! (That’s a question for Apple, unless anyone else has an answer.)

It’s annoying because when I drag each little mini-sequence into my main timeline, it insists on bringing with it the empty audio tracks as well as the video track.

    Thanks for your response.

You have to have the audio track but you don’t have to edit it into your timeline. Drag the mini-sequence from the browser into the viewer. Deselect the audio in the patch panel and then edit the video into the timeline with F9 or F10.

    All the best,

    Tom
