Sequence won’t open
I’m having a recurring problem in which my sequences will not open- I get the general error (34) message and then error: out of memory. If I don’t have to completely rebuild my sequence from scratch, sometimes I am prompted to delete my render files, in which case the sequence usually opens but then I have to re-render which usually takes hours. Today was especially bad because I opened up 3 different projects and it happened in all 3! I’m trying to avoid deleting the render files. Any suggestions?
I’m working on FCP 4.5, dual 2 ghz G5, 1.5 gig memory, and plenty of space on the drives.
PS I realize that corrupt media files are usually the culprit, but this happens so frequently that there must be something else going on…. -

Well, somewhere between trashing the prefs, repairing permissions, and doing a system updateI’ve managed to open my sequences. It won’t reconnect my render files- but I’ll take what I can get.

In the future, trashing your prefs will get rid of the general error. look in to FCP Rescue, a free app that handles trashing FCP preferences really well. It allows you to store a working set of preferences so when things like this happen, you are just a few clicks away from being up and running with a set of preferences that you have set up.
