I am an experienced FCP user (5yrs). running FCP studio 2, 6.0.5. OSX 10.4.11, Mac pro 2 x 2.66 dual core.

I had been working on a sequence for 2 days, came back to the project the next day and the sequence I had been working on had vanished from the browser. it was contained in a seperate bin. 2 sequences in the same bin had also vanished, all the media in the bin was still there and all the other sequences (in other bins) in the project were still there.

I am baffled, has anyone experienced this??? no searches bring up the sequences (as expected as they are contained within the project file).

I am not saying I couldn’t have accidentally deleted them as I shut down (I am working on 5 projects at the same time and very overloaded with work!), however, going back through all the auto saves reveals that the lost sequences are gone from most of the autosaves as well. they re appear in the auto saves about half way through day 1 of the session. (11.32 to be precise, but seems random)

I have also been through all my other projects just to check that I wasn’t working on two at the same time with a sequence from one project in the wrong browser, but no.

I really hope I have done something stupid and they will turn up, but at the moment I am very confused and cant find anyone with the same problem… does anyone have any ideas?????

    hopefully

    Chris

Well, to answer my own question I found this link…

    https://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7402247

explains that an FCP project file can become corrupt while you are working on it… at the point of corruption everything from then on is not saved, even though the project seems to be working fine and all your saves appear to be working. The problem only shows itself when you re-boot FCP.

I would still be interested to hear if anyone has had this problem and found a way to recover the corrupted work. Or has any ideas why it might have become corrupt and how to avoid this?

1 worry is that the project file which deleted my sequence, still contains other sequences, so are they also at risk? I will export each one as an XML file just in case. Any other safety tips from anyone else???

there are some good tips in the link above.
