Can anyone point me to a good primer or quick start guide to understanding the relationship between Frame Size Aspect Ratio, Pixel Aspect Ratios and Compressor settings?

It’s simple enough when all I need to do is create a sequence when all of the video matches, but what do you use when the actual video you are using is a small part of the project, and you’d like it to be in an HD format but aren’t sure what to choose? For example, what’s the dif between HDTV and HD? When should I use Apple Pro Res 422 and when should I choose something else?

I’m hoping to find something simpler and smaller than the manual… but I’ll be perusing those tonight.

Is there a tutorial on Cow that will help?

I’m running a MacBook Pro Intel Core Duo at 2.2 Ghz 2 Gig of Ram, video is on a second internal drive.

    Thanks!

    Denis,

As far as I know there is no tutorial on this.

Basically FCP is set up to do anything you want. First determine what you want your deliverable to be and then work backward from there.

There are codecs that are better than others.

FOR HD VIDEO a good start would be:

1920x 1080 square pixels (23.98) (29.97) depending on what your acquisition format is.
    Apple Prores 422 HQ

You might be best to have someone in your local community come in and set some presets for you and save yourself a lot of time and aggravation.

    David

    Peace
