    Sequence settings for XDCAM EX1 footage

    I’m using the current version of FCP and I want to be sure I’m setting up a project correctly for use with footage shot from my Sony EX1 cam. My sequence settings are:

    General tab:
    Frame Size: 1920 x 1080 (aspect ratio pull down menu is set to “custom”
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: This is one I’m not sure about. My footage is shot in 1920 x 1080, but this option only goes to 1440 x 1080. Should I select this one? Also, should I check the Anamorphic
    16:9 box?
    Field Dominance: I selected “None” because my footage is shot in 30 frame progressive mode.
    Editing Timebase: 29.97
    Quicktime Video Settings / Compressor: I chose “XDCAM EX 1080p30”, but will I get better results if I chose “None”?
    Aduio Settings: Default

    Video Processing tab: I checked “Render all YUV material in high-precision YUV”
    I left everything else on this tab as default.

    Render Control tab:
    Under the Codec pull down menu I selected: Apple ProRes 422, is this right? If I use this setting do I need to make sure I have “XDCAM EX 1080p30” selected for my compressor setting in the General tab?

    Any help will be greatly appreciated! I want to be sure I have the best settings for my projects.

    Jason,

    There are many Easy Setups for XDCAM EX, just pick the right one. Or, even simpler, just drop a clip onto the timeline and when FCP asks if you wish that the settings be changed to match those of the footage, just click yes. Trying to change each and every setting manually is hard to do correctly even for the best among us, and there’s no reason to do it.

    My XDCAM EX 1080p footage plays fine in the XDCAM browser but once imported into FCP 6.02 does not resolve at speed. I don’t have this problem with 1080i footage.

    Is this a settings issue, or could it be insufficient ram? My system is a dual 2.8GHZ iMac w/ 2GB ram. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks … David Marsh
