  • Sequence settings for editing AVCHD footage from Panasonic HDC-HM300

    Hi guys,
I own a Panasonic HDC-HM300 prosumer camera which shoots in AVCHD format. I transcode this footage using a program called iSkysoft Video Converter which transcodes the MTS files into mp4.s and claims for easy editing in FCP. However, when bringing my clips into my timeline it becomes a rendering nightmare. If I move a clip even one frame, I have to re-render. Is there a certain sequence setting that needs to be set when editing in this format? I am editing with FCP 7. Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

MP4 is not an editing codec. You need to transcode to ProRes for editing in FCP.

Log and transfer the footage first.

Log and transfer only seems to work for certain clips. Certain clips, while unwrapping, will reach almost 100% on the status bar and then freeze. When I click on it, an exclamation point pops up next to the clip name and it says “unknown error”

When I use iSkySoft to convert, they output as MP4’s, but is High Definition H.264 (MC), so shouldn’t it work? I have the option to convert the output to HD- MOV files. Will that work?

[Stephen Nahroniak] “When I click on it, an exclamation point pops up next to the clip name and it says “unknown error””

Are you doing this from an SD card or have you backed up the SD card to hard drive?

No. If Log and Transfer sin’t working for, try clipwrap. Yes, it costs money (but it’s cheap) and it works well to transcode AVCHD to ProRes.
