  • Sequence settings (field dominance) for DV 25P footage

    Aaarrghgh!!!

I can’t find a definitive answer anywhere on the web – everyone contradicts everyone!

Ok – Panasonic DVX100a PAL footage shot in 25P.

Sequence settings – Field dominance: Do I leave set as Lower/Even as if for interlace footage (because even though progressive, DV still records 2 fields), or change it to None – which would be the usual setting for progressive footage from other non-DV sources.

Someone who KNOWS FOR SURE, please advise – thanks!

    Thanks Rafael,

When you say check the footage as none – do you mean in the capture settings? Other than selecting an easy set up for the camera (in this case DVX_Anamorpic PAL – is there something else to check on capture? (in frame rate should it be “all” or 25fps?

This is separate to the sequence settings where you’re saying select field dominance-none.

Also – if part of the footage is 50i, will this sequence automatically de-interlace, or is it better to de-interlace that footage first, then import it? I read somewhere it may be better quality doing it that way.

    Thanks again for your help

    Justin

The footage is captured as Interlaced because although being Progressive have been recorded as Interlaced. Use the s
Once is in FC you can check it in the Browser as NONE, Upper or Lower First. If your sequence is Progressive, check it as NONE.

You can de-interlace the footage in FC, but you better do it with a plugin other than the standard FC de-interlacing filter. Nattress plugins are the best options.
you can use Compressor or MPGStreamclip as well.
