I have a basic sequence setting question. I need to edit some wmv footage that was given to me. I have set the sequence settings to prores and then ‘send to’ (FCP 7) compressor and compress as a H264, as the final destination is youtube. My question is, does it matter what codec I edit in, if I am sending it straight to compressor? (via the ‘send to’ function) i.e. does compressor use the ‘original’ wmv file to convert to h264 or the ‘rendered’ file in prores on the timeline for its final output? If so, I could edit in DV or something similar that is a little less CPU hungry on my macbook and the get the same results after sending direct to compressor for conversion to H264? Does that make sense?

    Cheers

    Hi Martin,
If you send directly to Compressor, the sequence coded should be override.
Compressor should get an Uncompress 444 file.
However the render setting would determine the color space (RGB/YUV) and bit depth (8/10b) of what Compressor gets.
If you render in 10b in FC, you should set the “Control Frame ON” in Compressor, otherwise Compressor would process in 8b.
