I work back and forth from AE to FCP. What is the best sequence preset to use in FCP (mostly what codec should I use) that supports alpha.
Right now i use ‘uncmprsd 8-bit’ in FCP… but it doesn’t support alpha, so i have to export alpha based QTs from AE using ‘Animation’, but then it has to render out the clip to play it back in FCP.
I’m looking to stream line the workflow and use the same codec throughout so i don’t get the “red bar” in my FCP timeline everytime i bring in an ‘Animation’ clip.
    Any suggestions?

TJ, I don’t think the question is what sequence settings support alpha. The alpha is in your media. Meaning if you are working in a DV sequence and you bring in a “animation” with alpha piece of media the DV sequence honors the alpha. Ultimately you need to decide on what format the majority of your media will be and set you sequence to that. When working with multi-format project; rendering is just something you have to live with for now.

uncompressed alpha 8 bit will work but you’ve overlooked onemore setting – under colours you want “millions+”. It defaults to “millions”.

That will totally work. Have fun!

This is sort of in the same realm of questions. I thought you guys might be able to help. I am trying to export a clip from final cut with an alpha so that someone else can import it an use in their final cut as well. I’ve been having two problems. I’m using the chroma filter to key out some green screen footage and it will key before I render it, but not after. The second problem is that when I try to export (using quick time conversion and the animation and millions of colors + settings) I am not getting a keyable element. I have a feeling I’m missing something simple. Any advice would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!
