    Hello!
    I have a canon hf100 (PAL version) that outputs AVCHD compressed m2ts-files with resolution 1920×1080. The clips are progressive (25 frames per second) but “contained” in a 50i format (if my understanding of the matter is correct). In PPro CS4, I use the “AVCHD 1080i25 (50i)” sequence preset since this is the one that does not show the red “render bar”.
    Question 1: Should I be using the “AVCHD 1080p25” sequence preset instead even though the red “render bar” shows? I definately want progressive output in the end.
    When my edit is finished I want to save my work in two formats. First of all I want to make a Blu-Ray disc with “best” quality (I know it will depend on the bitrate) and then I want to make a file in AVCHD format that can be stored on a DVDr disc and played back on a BD-player (I know that is possible since I do that with the original m2ts files from the camera).
    Question 2: What presets/settings should I use in the Adobe Media Encoder to get a good BD-disc compliant file?
    Question 3: What presets/settings should I use in the Adobe Media Encoder to get a AVCHD compliant file (bitrate 17 Mbits/s)?

    To answer Question #1, you should be editing in whatever preset doesn’t give you the red render bar. So in your case, I would use the AVCHD 1080i25 (50i) setting. This will allow you to edit quickly and without having to render unnecessarily. Also, if you shot in progressive, this setting won’t “add” interlacing if your worried about that. Just make sure to set your output as progressive, 25fps.

    As for the other two questions, will you be using Encore to author your bluray disc?

    Hi Scott and thanks for replying. My understanding has been what you suggest, namely that a progressive shot wont be interlaced if not the output is specified as progressive. What maid me uncertain in this matter was that I used dynamic link to import timelines from after effects and when they are played back in the 50i premiere timeline, some graphic effects seems to be interlaced (but not when put in the 25p timeline). I am not sure it makes any difference in the final output but for now I render out the after effects files as 25p lossless to be certain (in my present project they are so “slow rendered” that dynamic link is useless). However for future projects it would be interesting to know wheter premiere will “interlace” dynamic link material in a timeline with interlaced preset.

    As for question 2 and 3. For authoring of the Blu-Ray discs I will most certinly use encore. To author AVCHD DVDr discs that are playable on a BD-player I have so far used the HF100 camcorder, tsMuxer or Nero and will try out a new tool, multiAVCHD in the near future. I am not sure encore can do that.
