Sepia filter failed to render – help!
Hello there,
I am cutting an 8 minute short film, and i’m using a sepia plugin from FXPlug, which I think I may have gotten for free of the web at some point past, I can’t remember. I’ve used it on every clip, and at one point in the process, I had a bunch of clips ready for rendering, I selected and rendered the clips, but about a minute into the render I had to cancel it because something came up. So I then saved the project, then I quit out of the FCP. Later, I reopened the project, and the on the clips that I cancelled the render, I get the red screen and a message: Sepia failed to render.
What can I do? All the clips with the sepia filter that I did not cancel the render on still have it and is fine. I’ve tried deleting the filter and reapplying, but to no success. I’m also getting the missing files message, for the render file that I need supposedly, and after searching my entire system I have not found anything. I’ve tried restarting the project. I’ve read here about render files randomly going missing, but I can’t even rerender with this plugin. I also checked older versions and all the clips there have the same failed to render message. I didn’t even touch those projects, nor were they even open at the time. I’ve considered trashing my prefs and render files and starting a whole new render, but I’m a little nervous about that.
Any ideas? Can a plugin go bad in a matter of 15 minutes? Should I just delete all the filters and get a different filter and start over?

master clips and render files kept on a Lacie 500GB Firewire 800 – plenty of space
plenty of space on my startup disk, where app and plugins live.any help greatly appreciated!

Find the filter and Get Info. It should give you a source, but FC Studio 2 comes with at least two different Sepia filters so you should be able to use Motion even if they don’t work in FCP. And Sepia is easy to fake, you don’t need ay third party filters. Use a tint or color correction.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. I kinda figured I would have to just trash that filter and start over with something else anyways, which is unfortunate since I’ve spent so much time already. Oh well, that’s how it goes sometimes, you gotta do it twice…
