  • Separate audio with Sony CX900 and Final Cut PRO/X

Posted by Casimir Artmann on August 5, 2015 at 6:43 am

I have recorded a few clips with a Sony CX900, XLR-K2M adapter and two Røde lavs with XLR-connectors.

My problem is that I can’t separate each channel in edit in Final Cut when recording sound with videocamera,

It works as supposed with a recording done via a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 to computer when I separate the channels in Audacity. if importing as a stereo, then it’s the same as with the camera. It also works with my Zoom H2N or a borrowed Zoom H6.

Is it a limitation with the camera or with Final Cut? Plan B is to buy me a Zoom H6 to record sound separate as I know that it works as I have a four interviews to be shot next Friday.

What’s the channel configuration like in the Inspector? That’s how you determine whether clips are expressed as summed stereo or mono pairs, etc.

These are the buttons and dials on the Sony XLR-K2M adapter.

  • If you set ch1 on Rec Channel Select will input 1 goto ch1 and input 2 to channel ch1
  • If you set ch1+ch2 on Rec Channel Select will input 1 goto ch1 and ch2. Input 2 will not be used.
  • Obvious, of course?

I was referring to your channel configuration for the imported clips in FCPX’s inspector.
