Here is my problem. I need to make a video that has an announcer on the left and a video on the top right. Just like you see every night on the news. I know I can use the Pan/Zoom feature to size and move it.

The problem is that when I do that and add an effect like a border I get the border around the entire picture just like I never resized it. I also need to distort that top right video to fit a tv panel that was mounted at an angle.
This website https://www.checkeredflag.com/featured-videos/index.htm?featuredVideoId=c44068a640463872009e75f61a9dda85 show both examples. The woman’s prespective show the secondary video at an angle and the others show the frame around the secondary video.

Also any ideas on how to create the reflection below the secondary video?

Use a border effect on the EVENT and then use the Track Motion tool on the TRACK to zoom in on the event NOT the pan crop tool…

Thanks. I “think” i know how to do this. Any idea on adding a slant to the vidoe to make it look like it is further back?

I would definitely do as Scott suggested in this case. Track Motion will also allow you to add a drop shadow.

For future reference, there is a pre/post crop toggle on all FX. This will toggle the border, for example, from surrounding the entire frame to just surrounding the cropped area. It looks like this:

Just click it and it will face the other direction “<|" and toggle between pre and post crop. ~jr

Turn on 3D Track Motion and you can position it anywhere in 3D space.

    Wow!

Thanks guys for the quick response and 100% right on the money answers. Look like track motion will work much better than pan/crop.

I am still confused on how to create the blurred reflection of the video below the secondary video. I know you stated to use a shadow but the way I tried did not work.

    Thanks again.

The blurred reflection can be made by duplicating the track with the video and flipping it so that it’s upside down and backwards. Then position it under the original where you want the reflection. Add a blur to the track and you’re done. If you want the reflection to fall off, you’ll need to use a gradient mask.

You can also save the 3D track as a separate project (veg file) and bring it back into your original project and add the Sony Mirror FX to it. There are always more than one way to achieve a certain effect in Vegas.
