I have a Sennheiser EW100 G2 wireless system I’m trying to use wiht a Sony DSR-PD170 camera. I’m having problems outputting the signal from the transmitter to the XLR in to the camera. The only setting on the camera that seems to work is line in. The problem is I cannot seem to set the volumn on the camera nor the mike. So when my talent speaks loudly I get a horrible crashing sound that only goes away when the voice goes back to normal. But I also suspect that I should have the input on mic level not line level. Anyone familiar with this equipment and my problem please help.

    Thanks

I am not familiar with that camera but…you may have phantom power turned on for the XLR channel. Turn it off.

Your camera should be set for mic level. We have the EW100ENG-G2 system which should be similar to what you have. Both the G2 wireless transmitter and the reciever have adjustments for audio levels. Your problem most likely is either the transmitter or the receiver sensitivity is set too high.

    1. Start by setting a good level with your transmitter. There is a menu you can go into to set the incoming level. (On our transmitter there is a VU meter you can reference)

    2. After getting a proper level on the transmitter then you should set the AF output of the receiver. (We usually reference the VU meter on our camera as well as the receiver) Basically I try to achieve a “middle of the road” setting that allows for headroom between loud and quiet sounds.

Thank you very much for getting back with me. I’ll test these settings and read the pdf file. I’ll let you know my findings.
