Selling Avid Media Composer Perpetual License (MC 2022.4)
Hey everyone, up for sale is my Avid Media Composer Perpetual (unending) license, which I’ve maintained on update and support plans since 2016.
This is a user license for an individual machine, activated through Avid link, and transferred via online form.I’m looking to get around $700 for the license (I’ll absorb the transfer of ownership fees);
I am open to offers.New perpetual licenses for Media Composer are now USD $2000 / AUD $3000, and Media Composer itself is extremely efficient at what it does for educated / experienced users.
New users – expect a learning curve!This license is no longer on an update and support plan, hence the extremely competitive pricing – it expired as of June the 1st, 2022, but at the time of writing Avid are still trying to get me to renew the plan, so I believe it is still currently eligible for an update plan if purchased soon.
Even without a plan however, this version of Media Composer will remain at 2022.4 (April 2022).

I get why a perpetual licence is very attractive, so no question about your choice.
But it is worth noting that Avid, a year ago, was bought out by STG:

And, that they are already investing in bringing new technologies to Avid.
Adding, that the subscription price for Avid MC has come down by a fair bit from what it used to be.https://www.avid.com/media-composer
Earlier this year I found a dealer that was willing to sell me a 3-year subscription licence to AVID MC Ultimate, which beat the cost of a perpetual licence + upgrades.
This is just an opinion. I obviously do not know your specific circumstances.

Makes little sense anymore, as perpetual licenses are going to be killed off per 2026 or so. The original posting is from 2022…

Yea I have one and I cant update anything anymore so its kinda useless 🙁

I know of bussinesses that are running succesfully on old AVID software.
Trick, as I understand it, is to make sure that your hardware (Mac in this case) are not connected to the internet…
But they are not in the market to buy or sell, so makes no difference to them.
Having said that, even though the perpetual licence option would have been attractive, I think that through learning how to “game” online streamers by only taking 1-month subscriptions. There is the thought that taking an AVID subscription for the length of the job, and bake it into the charges to the client, could be a way to go.
For transperency, I took 3-years, because I want to move my own productions on to AVID MC.
