  • Selection contains no media?

Posted by Joe Pitkin on July 8, 2005 at 7:54 pm

I’ve run into this problem for the past couple days…

I’ve got FCP5 running on 10.3.9 on a dual G5 with 3 gig’s of memory. Exported ONCE out of FCP directly to compressor. Now everytime I try to export to compressor directly from FCP I get a ‘selection contains no media’ error.

My current work around is exporting a ref movie, and then compressing off of that for DVD’s… Any ideas? I’ve already deleted the compressor prefs, and the FCP prefs, no help… any ideas?

    thanks

Could it be that you’ve got in and out points set somewhere on the timeline?

Maybe it’s trying to export a blank section of the timeline

    markyyy.

Wish it were that simple. I’ve tried exporting with no in/out points, in/out set at the beginning and end of a sequence, and even a section of the sequence.

Select the sequence you want in the browser and then either choose export to compressor in the file menu or control click on the sequence and choose export to compressor in the contextual menu.

Also, you can try having the sequence you want as the active window with nothing in the seqeunce selected. Then use file>export>to compressor.

This problem seems to have something to do with what is or is not selected at the time you are doing the export.

    okay, done it all.

i’ve tried, having the sequence selected in the browser, and open on a timeline, in/out points set at beginning and end.

cntrl-click the sequence in the browser… ‘sequence conatians no media’

tried the File>export to compressor… with the timeline active and with the broswer active… same error…

did this BEFORE deleting prefs and after, no changes..

I’ll probably end up re-installing Compressor and seeing if that resets something. Just wonder why it worked ONCE and then not again…

Try to reinstall Compressor update 1.2.

FCP5 installs Compressor 2.0… so i’m going to re-install 2.0 and see if that makes a difference.

I’ve been following this issue on message boards for quite some time finding no solutions until now:

so crazy that this works, but it does! You probably don’t check this thread anymore, but if anyone else comes across it now they can finally solve this bizzare issue.
