How do I select a group of control points by using a mouse instead of COMMAND + SHIFT and clicking them individually? (Using a Mac system) I’m not talking about doubling clicking on the area to select the whole group, but a small section of them by sliding a mouse across.

I don’t know what you mean by “control points”. I’m going to guess that you mean mask vertices. If that guess is right, see “Select masks, segments, and vertices”.
