Select Multicamera specific takes to new track in VP8
I love the Multicamera feature in Vegas Pro 8 (like it better than QuadCam). However, once the takes are created I need to then identify them & move them to another track so I can set track specific effects (like color correction). Or even be able to identify by selection and be able to paste effects at the event level.
I’ve tried using the script called “Takes2Tracks”, but this doesn’t preserve the takes that were setup in the multicamera track. If I could somehow simply use the “Details” window to identify events associated with take numbers, then I could pull those events to a new track or paste attributes, that would be great.
I know there are other multicam solutions, but I’ve chosen the one Sony provides and I’d like to find a solution to it. Any ideas?

Apply your color correction to the clips in the Project Media tab instead. Then it will apply to that clip no matter where it’s used on the timeline and you won’t need to go through all the steps you’re trying to do.

Thanks Edward. I have tried media effects sometimes, but usually my “clip” is the whole tape (that’s the way I prefer to capture, especially for HDV which Vegas doesn’t do well with scene detection, but that’s a side discussion). So this won’t work because it it too broad, effecting the whole captured tape. Selecting certain takes on a timeline should be something that could be done via scripting, no?

Create subclip from master clip for each camera.
Apply FX to subclip in Project Media tab. -
Gilles, that’s brilliant! Never would have thought of this. Works perfectly. I just need to remember to always create this subclip before I create the multicamera track, but it’s a great solution. Would still like to know how to pull “takes” from the track to a new track, but at least I now have a workable solution. Thanks again!

My script “Takes2Tracks” allows you to keep the multicam tracks. -
Yes, it does allow the multicam track to stay intact. What I could use is the events pulled out into new tracks preserved with just the in/out for each event.
For example, multicam track has two clips of 2 seconds in length, starting with event1 then a “take” with 2nd clip starting at 1 second called event2. So, event1 with in=0:0 to out=1:00, then event2 with in=1:00 to out=2:00. I would like newtrack1 with event1 in=0 out=1:00 then nothing else (not the remainder of the original clip because the next “take” was at in=1:00. Then newtrack2 with event2 with in=1:00 out=2:00.
Basically, it I were to drag event2 down into a new track by hand it would be like I am describing. So when I have 100 multicam takes, it would be nice to drag all of “take 2” clips to a new track, preserving the camera choices and allowing me to manipulate at the track level for each camera.

Yes! That’s perfect. Subclip works to set media-level effects as well as the ability to move all associated clips from the multicam track to a new track. Thanks so much!

Ok, forget my script and try this workflow :
-Create subclip from master clip for each camera.
-Make multicam editing
-Right click subclip in project media tab and choose “Select in timeline”
-Copy or move selected Events to new track
