July 9, 2026 at 8:02 pmThere isn’t a way apparently. There is an “internal” list accessed by shift-clicking preferences or properties, but changing the default setting for video fades does nothing. The default is grayed out. This is weird since a linear fade would be basic, rather than a curve. Also, I seem to remember having changed it in a past version but forgot which one.
OK, thanks for the information, sir!

July 26, 2026 at 2:44 pmAhhh, but there IS a way to change the default fade type….
Here’s the way to change “default” to X (linear fade, top fade type on the list of fades)…..
…..in Vegas Pro, press the “Shift” key and left click “Preferences” and you’ll see “Internal.” Left click “Internal,” type in the blank box: eDefEnvVideoASRType
Left click TWICE in the box below “Value,” and change the default (4) to 1, click “Apply” and then click “Okay.”
Close Vegas Pro and reopen. Test a clip to see the results.
Enjoy!
