    Hi!
Is there in segment mode a way to select all clips forward or backward WITHOUT selecting all the empty spaces as well?
As it is now, the empty sections overwrite any existing clips if you move the clips backward in the timeline.
In my opinion, there is absolutely no reason why anyone would even like to select the empty sections.
    Have I missed something?

    Thanks,

In Avid, you can’t move two clips together if they’re separated by an empty space and you don’t select the empty space.

The empty space, or Filler in Avid speak, is treated pretty much as a transparent clip. So you must select all “clips”, even the filler, to move several clips.

    It’s just the Avid way.

    True, true.

No, but if want to move a chunk of clips, this isn’t a problem. Have you used the new tool, “Select Right” or “Select Left”? These work nicely for doing what you want to do. If you have a group of selected clips and you don’t want to include certain clips (including Filler), Shift+click the clips to deselect.

Just shift click the clips you want selected.
