I need to make ribbons similar to the one in this pic. I will need to make several differently shaped ribbons but with the same sort of looping helix-like pattern. Is there a way in Illustrator or Photoshop to sort of automate this pattern as I draw with the paintbrush or pen tool? thanks

Illustrator would be a good bet here.

It appears that the ribbon could be done with a brush that is one of the light/dark shapes, and just repeat. Pattern applied to a path might work also and allow you reshape path…lay the other graphics above on another layer.

    Thanks for your response.

I am not familiar with Illustrator much…but my lab does have it on the computer. Will you please xplain how to do what you suggested or direct me to a tutorial that will teach me how to do what you suggested? Thanks again.
