I produce business training courses that contain books and CDs. Right now I’ve got a fairly simple AE file that has the books flying in one at a time and the CD’s popping out and then back in and the next book comes flying in over it. Not much of a wow factor. Any ideas for getting from one book to the next???

Well, you’re going to have to be more specific on how you want to present yourself, and what the final arrangement is going to look like when the animation is finished.

Are you putting the books in a fan-like arrangement, with say 5 books each half/covering the one next to it? Or are the books just filling the screen, completely obscuring the ones behind it?

If they’re obscuring the books behind it completely, one idea is to spin up the book quickly with motion blur, and then during the spin, it dissolves into the new book so that by the time it stops spinning, it shows the next book. Sorta like how old movies like Citizen Kane would have a scene of headlines flying at you. Just a thought.

Books and CDs… I’d keep it fairly simple, too flashy is probably going to a bit disingenuous in this case. You might try for “classy” instead of “wow”. But I really don’t have a good sense of how you’re trying to present this.

Drop down viewing on-edge, then rotate around Y-axis to reveal the cover?
Flip up like dominoes or Rolodex cards?
Rotate on Y axis to reveal new cover on opposite side?
Slide in and vibrate when it stops?

For great general inspiration, go to Motionographer.com and check out the Cream o’ the Crop listing.

Nice suggestions, thanx. My stuff is B2B and I’m going for more of the corporate look. I’ve got a white background and on the left side, I’ve got several blue squares with multiply so they show through and a drop shadow and they are moving around (I also use these squares for the backdrop for behind the actor and smaller version in the lower third. The books come in out of a rotation and oversized fairly fast. The books segment is at the very end for the power close after the testimonials and the MC. Informercial style kinda…

Just wanted to spice it up a little.
