I just finished reading The premiere issue of CC magazine. Loved it.

This question is directed to Jerry Hofmann, but I’m sure lots of people would know the answer.

Jerry. In your article “Achieving a Rock Solid FCP System”, you reccomend periodically rebuilding your startup disk and reloading your software to optimize performance. I’m afraid my knowledge of Mac upkeep is lacking and I could use a primer on the steps needed to follow your advice. Could direct me to a source that explains the process in more detail. Thanks.

I don’t think there’s special steps to follow except that you do a clean install of the OS wiping all the info from the HD. After u do all the updates of the OS you need, install your FCS apps and updates and there u go u have a clean install of FCP. Don’t forget to back up all your project files before you do this.

I am not sure what he means by reloading the software unless he is refering to reintalling the software. Rebuilding the disc however is proberly using a utility like Diskwarrior to go through the disk. The program will look at how the files are placed on the harddrive. If 2 many of the files are out of order which the will be eventually. Disk warrior will be able to create a new library with files in order. Move your file to the new library in an inorder manner.
