    Hello,

While in an editing course in college my professor quickly added After Effects to the syllabus and we certainly did not have enough time to learn the program. He covered basic pan and zoom animation. Now, a couple years out of school and working in production, a friend is once again showing me around After Effects. I realize there is infinite potential of what could be done with this program, but do you folks have any suggested links to give this newbie some inspiration? I’ve already gone through some of the tutorials on the cow, and those were pretty eye-opening. Also, I’m curious what the more common uses of After Effects are (aside from the Ken Burns Pan and Zoom). Thanks for your time.

    follow the links> Experimental>CreamyCarnival>RollerCoaster

it’s a 3D-looking roller coaster, but it’s all done in AE.

Ayato’s directions can be a bit cryptic, so there are many posts here seeking help on doing his examples.

AE is used a lot (at least some) in the Art community (is there such a thing as a community of outcasts… art mode kicking in here), experimental video and such. Google it. I’m still working on a piece (hey, I got the art talk down) of a redwood forest scene, all from stills, then brought to life with AE effects. Now if I can just get the new Pope to let me project it onto the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel when he’s outta town… hmmm.

Seems to me that my Philosophy prof. once said something about not being able to have a category of things that can’t be categorized- it’s a paradox. That being said, I hang out with a lot of outcasts.

Thanks for the advice, folks. I’ve been editing for a couple of years now with FCP and am ready to mix up the media with some other programs. Your links should set me on my way (and I presume make me more marketable, eh?). I guess you can count on hearing more nagging questions from me in this forum from here on out.
