    Hi Guys and Gals…

I’m a long time NLE’r that has mostly managed to avoid the big purple. However in my current role, I’m training myself on the Avid Metaphor. So I’ll be pestering you guys for a few pointers if you don’t mind.

In edit* there used to be a function called “seek to source.”

basically, you could activate the source editor and press F2.

This would let you enter and a TC an optionally enter a reel.

This would then instantly pull that source (parked on that frame) into the SV so you could start marking it for your edit. If you specified no reel, it would simply find the first match and then let you keep cycling thru all clips that matched that TC until you found the one you wanted.

Is there an equivalnet workflow to this in the Avid line?

if not, what’s the proper workflow.

If you’ve got a producer sitting with you and you’re starting in on the offline, they’ll probably want to start calling numbers form a “paper cut list.” (ouch…nasty little buggers)

If you did the digitizing and organized the sources well, you could find things relatively quickly, but if you didn’t and are walkiing in the middle of someone elses pile of stuff….this could be cumbersome.

    your help is most appreciated.

    Thanks…

Click on the source window, enter a time code number using the number pad on your keyboard, click enter and you jump to that time code number. But you have to load the clip first — there’s no way to enter a reel number. This also works on the record monitor to jump quickly to a specific time code in the master.

hint: this only works if the tc on top of the window is set correctly…
