I’d like to know if AE is capable of doing the following: ignore frames (let’s say 10 out of every 30) of a footage, therefore creating micro time jumps, without changing the pace of the rest of the footage. The result I imagine is new footage simulating that of security cams (even web cams) that somehow ignore frames. I do not want to change the frame rate (let’s say down to 12 fps), I just want to tell AE to jump from one frame to another ignoring the frames in between. It would be very nice if this can be done with total control of the results (i.e. ignore frames 15 to 25 out in every 30 or the like).

I am just an amateur doing family video productions who felt in love with AE watching Andy’s and Aaron’s tutorials.

you could use the posterize time effect to give an effect of lower frame rate… so you could take 30fps footage and make it look choppy like 20fps, or 15fps, etc.

Well, I would think one solution would be to just go to edit>split layer wherever you want the jump to start. Then just trim in the new top layer however many frames you want it to jump.

You could just enable time remapping and then create hold keyframes for the frames you want it to show….

Dave LaRonde You could just do it in an editing application, no AE needed. Okay, you may want to use AE to make the footage look worse, like a security camera would.

I thought of that too, like manually dividing the footage, but that would be a lot of effort. I was wondering if there was an expression or a pluggin that could do just that in a semi-automated form.

    Thx for the tips though.

If you search the COW for “time remapping” and “ebberts” you might find something like this:

    Also look up POSTERIZE TIME.
    Much easier than remapping.

Thx guys for all the responses. I found them all extremelly helpful. I have just found exactly what I was looking for in an episode of digitaljuice TV (https://www.digitaljuice.com/djtv/segment_detail.asp?sid=203&sortby=&page=2&kwid=0&show=all_videos)

In fact, I found plenty more than I was looking for.

    Again, THANK YOU GUYS

Thank U very much. It is impressive: that was exactly what I was looking for, an expression to do just that.

I am amazed: is there anything CreativeCow is not able to solve? This forum is, without any doubt, one of the true jewells of the world wide web.

    Thanks again for the help.

In making it look worse, I destaurated the footage and added noise while adding a slight blur to it. It still looks to good, though! Hilarious.

Any other things you may think of to make it look worse?

    Thanks!
