Hi,
If you are thinking of working on premiere pro. You just downnload the the windows xp codec from blackmagic site. Install a graphic card like nvidia 6600 with tv out on secondry display. and any sound card supported by premiere. You will have to use video mirror on secondry display function of the card and you will get full frame video on ‘tv out’ of the graphic card. You can bring the media digitised from the extreme card computer with a firewire/usb disk. Just use this comp to edit and do all your output and input from the comp having extreme card. There is no real need of a decklink card on the home system.

I have little obsession with geting DL 🙂

Reason is to that oneday I’ll get my home machine to the office and hook up with
Videohub.

Untill then is there maybe some intermediate solution.

having a decklink card at home, with no professional equipment like pro monitors or pro VTR’s makes no sense. You can just “off line” edit on your computer screen. Buying a SDI to analog composite converter is only about $350 US, and Edirol speakers that can take the SPDIF audio to powered speakers is under $200. If all of this is too much money, then you don’t need the DL at home. Keep it at work with your professional equipment.

This time I have to say I disagree with you Bob, though I greatly appreciate your professional opinions. I always have great time reading them.
I use Decklink Pro at home with no professional equipment. I use it with Premiere Pro, After Effects, Commotion and Combustion. I use much interlaced material which is coming from different sources and it is nice to check from normal TV that fields are behaving correctly. So you need not worry too much when you take your finished work to the company that has professional VTRs.
And because you only need to have two SATA drives striped together to capture uncompressed SD material you also have possibility to hire Digibeta home sometimes…

Hi Margus,

I would say go with DL pro, it is indeed a good idea to monitor interlaced edits and motions graphics in their native resolution/format.

As far as audio is concerned you can route it through regular sound card. These days most of the sound cards have SPDIF and they are usually under 50 USD.

I got two suites both use DL SP at home. Both output to Analog Monitor Via Marshall Converter – BC0301-10 (https://www.lcdracks.com/convert/Digital-AnalogStandard.htm or https://www.mvpaudiovideo.com/index.php?Iid=9969). And both share a Betacam Deck.

I use a Philips LTC2821/90 Monitor such as these (https://www.lvw.com/monitors.htm).

Both machines and the Decklink out put works so great! My audio uses EMU Card to M-Audio Monitors.

not sure what your definition of low cost is but for about $900 you can get the AJA IoLD which will serve your SDI to analog video(component,s-vid,composite) and audio needs.

I’m a little confused by some of the posts. You got a Decklink Extreme right? It has component analog ins and outs. Can’t you hook the outs to a nice CRT? I’ve been contemplating getting an Extreme myself and would like to pair it up to a Panasonic or Toshiba 26″ widescreen HD monitor. If you need more outs to go into the component ins of a deck you could get a nice CAV DA from Audio Authority.
