I have a clip on my timeline in SV 11 Pro version that is a “talking head” with a white background. When I lit the background, it didn’t come out completely white, so I want to use the Secondary CC to select that portion and then turn it to complete white.

I select the Event FX icon within that clip and select Secondary CC, then I click the Select effect range eye dropper, then click and drag a region on the white background. I then click the Show mask checkbox, but nothing happens. Actually, the only thing that does happens is the entire clip turns white, but I can’t adjust the mask region, since it doesn’t appear. I adjust the sliders for Limit luminance, Limit saturation, and Limit hue, but nothing happens; the clip in my viewer just remains pure white. The talking head person even disappears!

Can you use the Secondary CC for an event?

Don’t know if Im getting the image of what you are trying to do but… why don’t you try by using a .psd mask?

Or maybe you need to do another layer just with the mask and try to using the CC in the layer.

Ron, you can use the secondary CC on an event. I do it all the time. I have noticed in the earlier versions of SVP 11 that the FX didn’t work properly sometimes. For example, I would load the brightness and contrast FX and no sliders, nothing, appears. Just a blank window. I shutdown Vegas, reload it and the FX adjusters appear. Exit the event and go back in to tweak it … and the sliders have gone! Restart Vegas and all is good for one time again. This got quite annoying and I gave up using SVP 11 until now.

Thankfully, the latest version of SVP 11 seems to have fixed this. I am using it to edit a 5 hour project with event level FX adjustments and so far so good.

Thanks. I’ll just keep working with it.

I also notice that when you go into the Pan/Crop tool, where the plugin chain appears, there’s a default one in the chain called Composite. If that appears AFTER the Secondary CC, the Secondary CC won’t work. You have to move the Secondary CC AFTER the Composite.

I’ll just have to play with it.
