I need a second monitor for editing and would like to know what others may be using. My budget does not permit a second Apple monitor, so I’d also like to know what connector type you use if other than thunderbolt.

Checkout eBay. I still use my original Cinema 23s. They work fine. I think they’re about $50 on eBay. However, you do need adapters to use them with Display Port or Thunderbolt.
