SDI Repeater & Cable
Well the SDI/HD switch hasn’t been as nice as SD video was. Out of 4 of my long cable run reels (all made from Clark) only one will show up the SDI signal. All still work fine for SD. I’ve tried an SDI DA on them but still nothing so I ordered a couple repeaters since I see this being an issue with my long runs. My questions:
1. Anyone seen a repeater that works off of batteries so I can place it inline with not having to run power to it? I see this being a problem if I have long runs for sports and I could get away with 1000′ in SD signal.
2. Any secrets out yet how to get SDI to run down any cable? Shoot, I can run it through a 6′ piece of RCA cable so this is really baffling me.
3. Cheap place to buy a 1000′ reel if I wanted to make my own? I see where Belden 1694F is a good choice but for $900-1100, I might as well order them already made up.
Anything else that would help run SDI long runs would help.

Hi Tony,
After about 400′ even on the best Belden cable, it’s a gamble. Found this battery powered unit:

Of course, there’s always fiber 🙂

Thanks. No one else having any problems with only a cable or two not letting SDI come down it? I have 3 reels which I’ve tried repeaters and everything on and nothing. I don’t see where this could be that the cable isn’t 75ohm or anything but I would like to be able to use these reels on my HD shoots.
