I’ve seen a couple of editors, myself included, struggle with attempts to get a digital cut done with audio embedded in the sdi-signal. Most often it’s just channel 1 and 4 that records something (on a classic digibetadeck). After a number of reboots we usually ‘throw the towell’, and go for the classic AES-option.

Are there more strugglers out there, and – most important – has anyone come up with a better workaround?

There are AES to Embedded Audio adapters on the market, but they are a bit pricey. There are disembedders for those wishing to digitize SDI with embedded audio. Check with Miranda or Markertek for these devices.
