Editing on FCP6, input from Panasonic aj-SD930 via SDI & AJA Kona breakout box.
Shoot on Panasonic sdx900 and just recently made the switch away from 4×3 and to 16×9 (all SD, no HD yet here).

I’ve figured out how to get the video into FCP and edit a timeline with the proper settings – but when I print to tape I’m not getting the ‘wide’ indicator on the front panel of the SD930, which implies that it’s not outputting 16×9, and I don’t see any DV playback settings – only SD (4×3 and HD (16×9) settings. But nothing I can edit to force 16×9 SD.

Anyone have any experience who can help?

You’re not missing anything, all SD DV, both 4×3 and anamorphic is recorded to tape exactly the same, at 720×480 pixels.

The tape deck does not see widescreen and 4×3 any differently. Widescreen SD is recorded squeezed, and checking the anamorphic checkbox in FCP makes it display properly, or when outputting to a 4×3 broadcast monitor, setting it to display 16×9 does the same. But, the difference between the two is only how they are displayed, not the way they are recorded.
