First of all thanks to all for the wealth of information i’ve found here and elsewhere on defining this P2 workflow.

Question: Can I shoot 720p and simply drop it in some sort of SD timeline in FCP5 for delivery on BetaSp? These are regional commercials that i would like to future proof and get a better looking master. I have tried all maner of Timeline and what i can get is a letterboxed SD in 8bit uncompressed. But cant seem to noodle the right combination for a center-cut SD version. I’m not sure if it’s a matter of lack of horsepower (dual G5 on the way) or cockpit error.

    Thanks,

    Peter

Adjust the scale settings up in the clip’s motion tab for a 4:3 center extraction. FCP assumes you want 4:3 letterbox.

    Noah,

I hit on that solution too. If i scale up to 90% in a 960×720 timeline and set the Decklink to anamorphic i get a 4:3 centercut. It would seem there should be an easier way within FCP. Does 5.1 have any further solutions or do i need to upgrade to an HD card?

    thanks,

Not really- what’s not easy about that?
