I am steadily learning how to properly set up my sequences for SD 4×3 output and to match my Photoshop and LiveType file settings to match the timeline. I think I’m close, but here is a new condition I’m hoping has a solution:

Now when I view my Photoshop and LiveType files (graphics and fonts) in the FC timeline, they are blurry and have torn edges. However, when I output a sequence to a QT file and play it back (from the QT player), they are nice and crisp and look great. If I play that same QT file back using FC, they look the same as in the Canvas timeline playback, crappy.

If I grab one of the PS or LT files in the timeline to extend its duration, the canvas window converts to a slightly smaller screen (with the sequence timecode appearing at the bottom) and the fonts all of a sudden look beautiful. As soon as I let go, everything reverts back.

Is there a reason why I cannot view my timeline while editing in a resolution that matches what the output is demonstrating?

Thanks in advance for any direction and pointers.

    Hi Mark,
To see things at full quality in FC, you need to see them in the canvas, with the canvas set at 100%, and fully rendered, otherwise FC is offering you a preview which quality will depends very much of your setting, footage, etc.
When you are confident that the out put will be OK, you don’t need to work with a full quality image.
    Best,
    Rafael

Thanks, Rafael. I have a large Cinema HD Mac monitor and everything enlarged on my FCP layout. So sure enough, I lowered my canvas from 126% to 100% and the picture is much improved. Just did not realize that simple condition.

    I think I’m there now!

Thanks again and best of luck.
