I’m editing a project that was shot 720p and I’ve been editing on a 720 timeline. Now I’ve been given some SD (DV) footage for extra B-Roll. The final delivery will be IPOD, Web and- although they haven’t asked for a DVD, I’m sure they’ll want one. So…. should I edit on an SD timeline, and size down the footage, or, keep editing on the HD timeline, size up the SD footage- will the sd footage look the same if its sized up and back down?

Keep editing in HD. As they say, “don’t throw out the baby with the bath water.”

Close enough. I mean look, if the SD material is absolutely pristine and wonderful, and you know it’s never going to see the light of day ever as HD, then that’s another issue. But normally, most people who shoot HD want the b-roll to look like stock footage and their wonderful first generation HD to look like wonderful first generation HD.
