What is the step by step process to get SD quicktimes 720 x 486 into a 1920 x 1080 project in Avid Nitris.

I would like them brought in center cut and not scaled at all as I do not want to lose any resolution. I will use a mortice to frame them.

How would I do this but scale up the SD quicktime to 1920 x 1080. I would like to see how the Notris does at uprez.

    thanks in advance.

Switch your project to SD (Format Tab in your Project Window), import, switch to HD.

Thank you , I have done that but I am yet to see the 720×486 sd import centered on the HD1080i timeline.

I have been assuming this would show up smaller like on Inferno of After Effects.

Am I wrong to assume that .

When switching to HD, it is always scaled in real time to fill the frame. If you want to have original resolution, you can import an SD size file in the HD project and select preserve original or something to that affect (not in front of a system right now).

You can either import the QT in an SD project and transcode the file once you’ve switched over to the HD projcet, or you can just import it directly into the HD project. Personally, I would just import it directly into the HD project, select “Do no resize smaller image” to maintain the original frame size and use “resize” or “pan & scan” to manipulate the QT from there.

To scale it to 1920×1080, choose the “Image properly sized for current format” option on import. This will alter you aspect ratio and cause some resolution issues, but that’s how it goes unfortunately.

If you have access to a Teranex (or any other uprez hardware) & Beta deck, I would lay the QT to tape and then digitize and uprez via the Teranex. That would be the best way to retain resolution, but most people do not have that equipment laying around.

    Hope this helps.
