SD Footage Suddenly Pixelated
I’ve been using Final Cut 7 for years to transfer, edit and export VHS footage. I use it nearly daily. Suddenly, without any warning, my exported footage is pixelated.
Thoughts lots of trial and error I’ve discovered if I make zero edits to the footage, it exports fine, but it’s once I edit it the whole thing goes to hell.
Another thing I’ve noticed is when I make a freeze frame, it appears pixelated in the viewer window, but when I drag it into the timeline, the image becomes clear. I often use freeze frames to repair glitches from the tape transfer. I cover them up using portions of the previous frame. Sometimes an export will appear to be clear, but anytime it hits a repaired frame using freeze frames, it becomes blurry.
Another weird thing it’s doing is when I export using QuickTime Conversion, the image of the canvas window becomes pixelated.
The footage I’m editing is usually
720×480, DV/DVCPro-NTSC
I normally export at
720×480, AppleProRes LT
I’m at a loss. I even uninstalled and reinstalled FCP with no luck. It’s probably a shot in the dark, but hopefully someone can help.
