SD DVD from a HDV timeline.
Is it possible to burn a set top playable 4:3 SD DVD directly from a HDV 16:9 timeline (there is no audio and I’m using FC Studio2)?
If not would the correct workflow be… exporting from FCP using Compressor to get a 4:3 SD QT MOV file? Import that into DVD Pro and set it up to convert the file to mpeg2 and burn a disk? Or should I use Compressor to make the mpeg2 file?
Ideally I would like to be able to burn dvds (to be viewed on TVs) from the timeline in a quick simple way.

This question is asked and answered several times each week. The proper way to create a SD DVD from an HD timeline is as follows:
1) Export either a QT reference file or self contained file using current settings.
2) Import into Compressor.
3) Choose the proper Best Quality DVD preset for your length video.
4) Make absolutely certain that the Aspect Ratio in the Encoder tab of the Inspector is set to 16×9 . Thsi will create a DVD that plays 16×9 on widescreen TVs and letterboxed on 4×3 TVs.
5) Use the two encoded files (AC3 audio and m2v video) in DVDSP to create your DVD.
