SD Card for Vegas?
Hi,
I have Sony Vegas 9.0 and DVDA. I would like to know if I can download from a SD card into Vegas? I am interested in the new GoPro HD Camera (link below) which is a helmet camera. Douglas Spotted Eagle reviewed one of their camera’s in the past. This cam is a low end camera, but it will be good enough for what I want to do. The camera will use up to a 32GB SD card. If Vegas can be used, could you please advise me how to go about it? If not, do you have any suggestions how to place it on mini-dv for downloading? Your help would be most appreciated. Thanks, Ray -

I can’t give you the specific answers for those cameras (I’m sure Mr. Spotted Eagle will be along any minute now – unless he’s out jumping today!), but the physical format of the media is unimportant. If your computer can see and read the SD card and copy the files to the hard disk drive, then you are good to go. But the real question is: Can Vegas read the digital movie files? And that is a question for Spot.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, my computer is plenty big enough for the video. I have it set up as a video editing workstation. Hopefully Spot can shed a little light as well. Thanks again for your help, Ray -
As long as this camera produces correct H.264 (1080/30p at 12Mb/s is the claim) in an MPEG-4 file wrapper, Vegas should have no trouble editing it.
Of course, H.264 is a slow editing format… some people use an intermediate CODEC like Cineform for editing. But Vegas will do the job.. I have editing both AVCHD (H.264 and AC-3 audio in an MPEG-2 transport stream) and “generic” MPEG-4 (H.264 and AAC audio in an MPEG-4 container) in Vegas without problems.
If there are problems, it’s probably due to errors in the format. For example, the Sanyo VPC-FH1 produces some funky weird MP4… negative timecodes, maybe some other weirdness, that crashes Vegas 9… at least most of the time. If you re-multiplex the A/V back into an MP4 wrapper with the timecode fixed, though, it’s perfectly editable. At least on a fast PC.
If they have any downloadable video clips, give ’em a try in Vegas.

Thanks for all the help. I sure would like to come across someone that actually used the GoPro and uploaded it to Vegas. I’m still trying to decide if this camera is worth the trouble. If I do purchase this camera, I will try to piece it all together by following your recommendations. I truly appreciate all the help you folks have given. Ray.
