I have the task of producing on-air tv menus every week.

Is there a way of automating the task using a central database that can insert/change text into an AE file then render out?

The job only takes me less than half an hour but if I can automate this it would be great.

You can write an applescript or vbscript that launches AE, then starts an AE Javascript.
It’s do-able, but ask yourself, is it worth it, only to find out that the robot didn’t look at kerning, and how the text would flow better if that line-break was 1 word earlier etc.

Perhaps you could find a go-between: design the text-layer in photoshop (should take you only a few minutes maybe) and insert that layer in an automated process that just adds the backgrouns and fades/wipes etc.

    thanks filip.

the changes will only be single lines and four words maximum so no problem with kerning or text wrapping.
