  • Scripting: Assign layer color based on file name?

Posted by Matt French on July 1, 2009 at 2:19 am

Sorry if this is a basic question, I am a relatively newbie at AE from a Shake and Nuke background.

I am hoping it is possible to script something that will automatically assign layer colors based on a filename input.

Eg it will check the filename and if it finds xxx_yyyyy_zzz_RGB.#.tga it will assign “red” (based on the RGB tag), if it finds xxx_yyyyy_zzz_SHADOW.#.tga it will assign “green” (based on the SHADOW tag) etc.

    Any pointers would be appreciated.

Are you talking about the layer’s label color? As far as I know, that’s not accessible to scripting.

Yes, the label color. Interesting that it would not be accessible by scripting as it seems like a pretty basic functionality.

If your ultimate goal is layer controll
check out this script for tagging layers.
