  • Script or Plug-In to copy files to project folder?

Hi. I’m working in After Effects and Cinema 4D, and there is a feature in C4D that I would love to see in AE: when I reference a file outside of my working project folder, a dialogue pops up telling me that the file is not in the same folder as my project, and asks if I want the file copied into the working folder.

Is there a script out there that will allow After Effects to do this? I use AE constantly and am constantly referencing files from 3 different servers at work, so if it was possible to do this, it would be a huge timesaver.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions on how to get AE to do this.

i don’t know of a way to do that at import, but you can do file>collect files for a project and ae will collect all files used in the project, organize them to some degree and save them in a folder with the project file.

it’s very useful at the end of a project to collect everything and save it off for archiving, or to send out somewhere. but it won’t place any new items you import into the new assets directories, so it may be of limited helpfulness for your situation…

you may be able to find a script for something like that, it would be useful. try posting in the expression forum and also look at https://www.aenhancers.com for scripts.
