I would like to automate the process of lowering a clip’s velocity to zero but only in the selected portion. I use this frequently for sports highlights where the action pauses for 2-3 seconds. Is there a script to accomplish this?

If there is, I’m sure someone will suggest it.
In the meantime, here’s a workaround.
Split the first clip so the selected portion is a separate event.
Insert the Velocity envelope and set it to 0.
Split all remaining events as desired.
    Copy the first event.
Shift-click the rest of the split events to select all of them, right-click and choose “Paste Event Attributes”.
Velocity at 0 is now applied to all events.

It took me longer to type this than it does to do it 🙂

    Thanks Mike,
While this method will quickly set multiple clips to zero velocity, I still need the clip following the “paused” clip to pick up at the right spot. Maybe I’m missing something. I’ll bet if I was a scripter it would be a simple one (hint hint…..anyone??)

“I still need the clip following the “paused” clip to pick up at the right spot”

A minor detail that I forgot about 🙂
Some days I wish I knew how to write scripts but there’s not enough hours in the day.

    Hi Bill,

I don’t have a script for you, but I encountered a quick and logical way to created a freeze frame and then have the action pick up where it left off.

Split the clip where you want it to freeze, then create a png by clicking on the little floppy disk icon above your preview screen. (Make sure your preview is set to Best/Full.) Name and save the png. Once you’ve done this, it will automatically appear in your Project Media tab. Now you can drag it onto the timeline, make it as long as you want, and the action will pick up where it left off.

Once you’re used to this, you can do it in a matter of seconds.
