Screen sharing in Leopard with FCP
Posted by Joe Langenfeld on November 5, 2007 at 4:02 pmThis seems like a cool way to avoid coming in to work (if the client isn’t there), except for this: you can see and operate your remote Mac but you can’t HEAR it! Does anyone have a way to hear the audio output of the remote Mac?
thanks,
Joe

We are using Slingboxes to monitor our broadcast, traffic, robotics and insertion. Purchased a few Sprint/Nextel data cards for laptops to monitor and fix while on the road. We are very impressed with the Slingbox.

That is not what he is wanting to do at all. He wants to remotely control his work computer from home.
Back to the original question.
Along with no audio, I am betting that you would have issues with being able to smoothly monitor that video from the remote computer because it it having to send it over the internet. -

November 6, 2007 at 5:43 amhehe nice idea.
You could sling a mic from some skype headphones over the speakers and get the audio through skype. Don’t know about the sync though….

November 6, 2007 at 6:14 amand you don’t get it zrb123. I can control any of my computers from home and use the Slingbox to see/hear what video/audio is present. Not frame accurate, but it can be done.

Well you didn’t say that in your original post all you said was monitor it.
[bockos] “Not frame accurate”
Now that can pose a BIG problem.

oh, like any vpn, screen sharing app really is? Even remote desktop on a closed lan network isn’t frame accurate. they are close. Also there probably won’t be real time play back.It will be like 10-15 fps at best. Not that it will be slow, more that it will be playing back with staggered frames.

November 7, 2007 at 6:22 pmIf iChat is active, then you can hear the audio the mic on the other computer is picking up.
