Hey everyone! I love this site by the way, soo good. i’m mostly checking the after effects forum but this time i need some basic help with premiere.

My question is that i’m using the Screen Key effect on a video I made that is motion graphics and only in black and white. I just want to overlay it on top of some video and take out the black. So I used the Screen Key effect but then I want this to fade away. but as soon as I key the opacity, the screen key seems to disable. Is this because it’s only effective with 100% black and not any other variation? is there another solution for this pretty easy effect?

    thanks! you guys are awesome!

The screen key never did work, now dropped in CS3. Premiere is just lousy at keying but try the Color Key.

You need to use Compound Arithmetic to use the compositing effects of screen/multiply/difference. You need to place the composite on top (as usual) then use the “CA” settings to point to the layer you are affecting.
