  • Screen Grabs in AVIDExpress Pro? NEED HELP!

Posted by Katherine Pickard on March 11, 2008 at 8:13 pm

Quick & Easy Question: I am creating screen grabs from an AVID sequence (I am not an editor) every pic. I export is low res, under 100KB. I need to use these grabs for design web/print materials. Is there a way to get higher res. jpeg exports? What am I missing?

    Thanks!!

    Kstherine,

SD video is 720 X 480 for DV, 720 X 486 for D1 (Beta SP, etc.) at 72 dpi. If you want to go higher rez with it, software programs like Photoshop can interpolate the image, but don’t expect great results. You can google for programs that claim to do this well.

    Good luck,

With all due respect to Joe, the first question is what is the res of the footage? SD should give you approximately a 1 meg file at a reasonable res. This is just rough…

Even then there is no easy way to use any sizeable image from SD footage in print. Pick something very simple and clean and use it as a small pic.

Also check your export settings. Export as something with no compression, a TIFF should be decent.

Web and print are roughly the same idea, manipulate (clean up) in PS. Video, print and the web all use different colour spaces as we all know.
